Guinness Beef Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
4 six-inch pie shells, 1 1/2 lb. stewing beef, diced, 4 Tbsp. vegetable oil, 5 oz. sweet peas, 6 oz. diced carrot, 1/2 cup beef broth, 1/2 cup Guinness beer, 1 Tbsp. tomato paste,
2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour,
1 medium onion, chopped, 2 garlic cloves, crushed,
1 tsp. sweet paprika,
salt and pepper to taste.
Recipe:
Heat the oil in a large skillet and saute the onion and garlic for 2 minutes. Add the vegetables and beef and saute until the meat is lightly browned. Add the flour and paprika, and stir until the flour coats the other ingredients. Deglaze with the beef broth and Guinness and stir until there are no lumps from the flour. Add the tomato paste and simmer until the pie stuffing thickens. Season to taste and fill the pie shells. Put the pie lids on top and bake the beef pies in a preheated oven at medium temperature for about 45 minutes or until ready.
The Guinness beef pie is an Irish recipe originating in North America. When the Irish immigrants arrived in America, where lamb is not as commonly eaten as in Ireland, they were forced to modify their cooking habits and start using more beef.
